Beaded Jewelry

Beaded jewelry does not have to be expensive. It can be made by kids and adults of all skill levels and has more sentimental value than monetary value. It’s also a fun group/social craft:

• Buy some elastic thread and some small-to-medium beads. In general, seed beads are too small to use and pony beads are too large, but it’s your jewelry so get what you want.

• Decide what kind of beaded jewelry you are going to make. You could make necklaces, anklets, bracelets, or other types of jewelry.

• For necklaces or bracelets, cut a piece of elastic thread that measures about 3-4 inches longer than you need. After this is finished, tie a bead onto one of the ends of the piece of string so that the other beads do not fall off once you begin putting them into place.

• String beads until the string is filled.

• To complete your beaded jewelry tie the two ends of the elastic together and cut off the extra.

Your kids will enjoy making beaded jewelry and you will likely have a great time helping them to do it.
